When Call of Duty made the leap from World War II to modern times, it was a catalyst for the series going to the next level and also acting as the inspiration for countless similar efforts. Modern Warfare et al have changed the FPS genre immeasurably, but after the fatigue brought on by the likes of Infinite Warfare, fans want to go back to simpler times.
And they might be in luck.

I couldn’t verify this as being legitimate, so take it with a pinch of salt. That being said, the leaker previously had a DMCA from Activision for posting about Infinite Warfare before its announcement.
Although these may look to be the real deal, wait until Activision confirms the new game before getting too excited. Knowing the publisher, the game will come with a series of DLC and microtransactions more impenetrable than the Somme, so don’t get your hopes up that it will be the revival the series needs.
