You have to love those gamers who have too much time on their hands. They’re the ones who find news like this: the new Battlefield game will be revealed on May 23rd, and features the tagline “Never Be The Same”.
The news comes from an Easter Egg found in Battlefield 1, which saw players completing various steps to unlock a new dogtag and access to a mysterious room. Once inside the room, players could hear the sound of a dripping water that was actually Morse Code. When translated, it gave the URL www.ea.com/neverbethesame.
The webpage itself is pretty straightforward: just the hashtag #Battlefield and the date May 23rd 2018. Taking a peek at the javascript for the page also reveals a countdown timer set to end on May 28th as well (thanks VG24/7), so perhaps May 23rd will be the teaser before the proper reveal on May 28th.
What form this new Battlefield will take is still unknown. The most prevailing rumour appears to be a World War 2 game called Battlefield V, with the V having the dual meaning as “V for Victory” and the Roman numeral for 5. It’s also rumoured to have a battle royale mode. Cue eye rolling from the entire gaming community. We’re still holding out hope for Bad Company 3, but that ship has probably sailed already.
