Never Have I Ever Creator Mindy Kaling Comes Onboard For Legally Blonde 3

"Just bend and - snap!"

Deadline recently reported that Mindy Kaling, creator of Netflix series Never Have I Ever, as well as Dan Goor, have come onboard to write for Legally Blonde 3. This is the second project that Kaling and Goor are collaborating on, the first being a Kaling/Priyanka Chopra Indian Wedding comedy that Universal won the rights to after a heated battle with other movie studios.

Reese Witherspoon will resume her character of Elle Woods, producing through her Hello Sunshine studio with the franchise’s original producer Marc Platt. Legally Blonde 3 was announced in 2018, and originally, the team of Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah were set to write the script. Kaling and Goor’s version will be an entirely new spin on the franchise.

Both Kaling and Goor are heavyweights in the television comedy circuit. Kaling recently co-created and is the executive producer on the critically acclaimed Netflix comedy series Never Have I Ever, which is inspired by Kaling’s own childhood. She has two SAG ensemble wins and six Emmy nominations for The Office as executive producer and star. Goor is a two-time Emmy winning writer of The Daily Show and Late Night With Conan O’Brien. He is the co-creator of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and was an executive producer and writer on Parks and Recreation.

While Legally Blonde was a sensation, the sequel didn’t quite live up to its predecessor, so let’s hope the Kaling/Goor partnership will bring something new and fresh to the franchise.
