Neil deGrasse Tyson Presents: Space Odyssey Lands on Kickstarter

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson deserves a heck of a lot of credit for his continued efforts to make the public more aware of the importance of science. And seeing as we live in an age where a party of climate deniers and creationists run the US government, the need to educate people about science really has never been more vital.

Tyson has teamed up with developer Whatnot Entertainment for the new game Neil deGrasse Tyson Presents: Space Odyssey, which is currently looking to raise $314,159 on Kickstarter. It’s already hit a third of its goal, and with 33 days remaining, I’m willing to bet that the final amount will be light years ahead. No pun intended.

Featuring scientifically accurate gameplay, Space Odyssey will have the player exploring the depths of space as they colonize various planets, nurture species, create robots and mine for unique elements. It’s basically a science fiction game, but with a streonger focus on science. Space Odyssey actually sounds similar to Richard Dawkins: Evolution, another video game featuring a famous scientist which was announced earlier this year.

Tyson can currently be seen on the National Geographic series StarTalk, and on the YouTube channel of the same name. He also appeared in Batman vs. Superman, which I mention without comment.
