Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Pulled From Russian PlayStation Store

Mission failed, we'll get 'em next time.

Modern Warfare

It’s been announced that Sony have pulled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare from the Russian PlayStation Store, though the game is still available to pre-order and purchase digitally on PC and Xbox One. The news was announced via a tweet from the Russian Call of Duty account, which was translated by Eurogamer:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a fictional game that has been thoughtfully created to entertain fans and tell a compelling narrative. Sony Interactive Entertainment has decided not to sell Modern Warfare on the PlayStation Store in Russia at this time. We look forward to launching Modern Warfare digitally in Russia on 25 October on PC via Battle.net and on console via Xbox.

Activision also reached out to Eurogamer with a statement that basically reiterated that it was Sony’s decision to pull the game, with digital pre-orders now cancelled. Again, the game is still available to pre-order on Xbox One and PC, and no word has been given regarding physical copies of the game, so we can only assume they’ll still be available.

It’s a surprising decision from Sony, especially considering the fact that they’re engaged in an exclusivity deal with Call of Duty. With Modern Warfare’s campaign mode harkening back to the days of Russian military consistently being cast as the villains, that seems like the most likely reason, but the fact that the game is still available on PC and Xbox One is really strange. Hopefully, we’ll have more answers in the coming days.
