Mauro Ranallo Back Behind A Commentary Desk

Mauro Ranallo

There is some great news for fans of Mauro Ranallo today, as news has broken of his imminent return to broadcasting.

It was announced that Ranallo will be reporting to Yokohama, Japan to call Rizin Fighting on Sunday.

Rizin announced the deal on Friday on their Facebook page, which can be found here.

In the statement, Ranallo said:

“I believe it’s destiny that I find myself back in Japan at this time and I can’t wait to call the action in front of the sport’s most knowledgeable audience. 11 matchups comprise this event and I’m really excited by the RIZIN debut of Japanese star & former UFC Flyweight title challenger Kyoji Horiguchi.

Horiguchi brings a 3 fight win streak to his meeting with compatriot Yuki Motoya who has reeled off 10 consecutive wins. I expect a high speed human chess battle will play out as they look to mute the other’s momentum.”

Mauro Ranallo has been absent from his commentary duties on Smackdown Live recently, owing to allegations of bullying at the hands of fellow announcer, John “Bradshaw” Layfield.

While Mauro himself has yet to make any official statement on the matter (other than removing any mention of WWE from his Twitter profile), Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has noted that contract settlements between Ranallo and WWE have begun.

Ranallo will be teaming with former MMA star and broadcast partner Frank Shamrock to call the action on Sunday in Japan.
