Warner Brothers announced that the Matrix 4 (which is the working title and not the confirmed name) has a release date of May 21, 2021. If you think that date sounds familiar, or that you might have marked it in your calendar for some reason, that’s because it is the exact same release date of Liongate’s John Wick 4 (also the working title and not the confirmed one). This means, as of right now, two movie studios have decided to release their individual Keanu movies on the same date.
Since 2021 is not happening any time soon, it is possible that one of the movie studios will budge and move their movie to another date. After all, releasing two movies with the same lead actor (who is the internet’s boyfriend) would only split audiences during opening weekend.
Or, this could be the greatest marketing plan ever, with viewers deciding to make a Keanu marathon of the opportunity. As it stands at the moment, John Wick 4 is the only summer movie Lionsgate has on its roster now for 2021, so it might be easier for them to move the release date, and it remains to be seen if this will actually happen.
The Matrix 4 has got a great cast going for it, with Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Jada Pinkett Smith resuming their roles in the franchise, and newcomers like Neil Patrick Harris and Jonathan Groff on board as well.
