Marvel Reportedly Planning Wesley Snipes Blade Return

"You didn't think I forgot about you, did you?"

Blade movie

With the franchise being dormant since the incredibly iffy Trinity in 2004 that was more of a trial run for Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool than anything else (we are also not acknowledging the TV show), we could finally be getting a return to Blade, if a report from We Got This Covered is to be believed.

The report alleges that Marvel will be lining up Wesley Snipes for a return as Blade with it also aiming for an R rating, which almost sounds too good to be true. With a fifteen year gap between movies, the plot will reportedly revolve around Blade training his young daughter in the ways of vampire hunting. This makes sense: Snipes is pushing 60 and may not be the best fit to continue the franchise in the long run.

This has been gesticulating for a little while with Snipes always happy to talk about a return to the character, saying the following during an interview with Vice:

“All the main execs [at Marvel] and my team, we’ve been discussing for the past two years. Everyone’s enthusiastic about it, everybody gets it. But they got a business to run and they gotta square the things that they gotta figure out before they can get to it, I guess. In the meantime, we got a business to run and our own slate of things to do so…

But the next time you see something in [the Blade universe], mark my words: what we did before is child’s play compared to what we can do now.”

And in December, Snipes mentioned that he was still primed for a return in a tweet.

This new direction for Blade would just be logical, the franchise continuing with a new lead and Snipes as Blade taking a supporting role. It would be better than a reboot as Snipes is irreplaceable in the role; you just couldn’t imagine someone else taking his spot.

But as always, these are just rumours. Don’t hold your breath until we get official confirmation.
