Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite – 5 Marvel Characters We Want to See

Marvel

We’re just a couple of months away from the release of a game many people thought would never happen; Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite. After Capcom lost the license to create Marvel titles back in 2014, it was assumed that the answer to the question “WHEN’S MAHVEL?!” would be “never”. It feels good to be proven wrong.

Last time we outlined our picks for the Capcom roster, which you can check out here. It’s fair to say it was an eclectic mix, bordering on the insane at times (#GeneForMVCInfinite). Now, it’s time to delve into the Marvel universe and pull out our top 5 picks.

Punisher

We finished the previous list with a personal pick, so let’s start with the same fashion. The Punisher has recently been thrust back into the limelight with Jon Bernthal’s excellent portrayal of Frank Castle in Daredevil season two and the upcoming Punisher spin-off series. What better way to capitalise on that surge in popularity than to include Frank Castle in the Marvel vs Capcom roster? Admittedly, his inclusion is highly doubtful. His lack of powers and fetish for firearms might make his moves too similar to Capcom’s Chris Redfield, who has already been confirmed, but there’s still a chance. Hell, I’d be okay with The Punisher being a premium costume for Redfield. Look at Injustice 2’s Premier Skins for an example.

Daredevil

Lawyer by day and vigilante by night, Matt Murdock’s personal crusade to clean up Hell’s Kitchen has been one of the crown jewels of Netflix and Marvel’s collaboration. Just don’t mention Iron Fist. Of course, the Man Without Fear has been entrenched in Marvel Comics for well over half a century, but his videogame history is lacklustre at best. Sure, he was playable in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, but he was also in Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects. You win some, you lose some. His martial arts skills and multipurpose Billy Club would make Matt Murdock a devastating close range combatant, equipped with big combos, crushing counters and enough style to get any crowd hyped.

Loki

Given the unique set of skills that the Trickster God possesses, you would think that Loki would have appeared in more fighting games over the years. That Avengers Kinect game and Contest of Champions do not count. Fuck you if you think so. His ability to teleport and utilise energy projection would amount to god-tier space control, whilst his talent for conjuring illusions could lead to some interesting special moves. A close equivalent could be Noob Saibot from MK9, who sent out clones of himself to attack his enemies. Plus, that staff of his has the potential for some flashy combos.

Drax

A couple of years ago, the name Drax would have meant little to practically everyone. Most people would have assumed it was some kind of skin disease. “I can’t touch you. I have Drax.” Enter Dave Bautista. His performance as Drax in both Guardians of the Galaxy movies catapulted Dave into the spotlight and captured the hearts of cinemagoers everywhere. Like Loki, Drax has moves and abilities befitting of a fighting game character. His “berserker” style and his twin knives are naturally conducive to big combos and high damage, similar to a certain X-Men member that rhymes with “Pulverine”. Seriously, if the rumours that Infinite will only include MCU characters and no X-Men are to be believed (even if Capcom Producer Mike Evans speaks to the contrary), Drax would make a fine replacement. Just remember; nothing goes over his head.

The Vision

Speaking of the MCU, they’re currently hurtling headfirst to Infinity War, which concerns the same Infinity Stones that are now integral to the premise of Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite. Sick of the word Infinite yet? Currently, the Mind Stone finds itself squarely on the head of Marvel’s android Superman equivalent, The Vision. Again, Marvel have said that this game is in no way tied to the MCU, but it would be a nice little nod to see the current wielder of one of the Stones. As far as gameplay is concerned, Vision’s laser blasts will allow him to keep opponents at bay, but he’s no slouch in a fist fight either. He possesses superhuman strength and agility, and was trained in hand to hand combat by Captain America. Let’s just hope they don’t include Captain Hydra America Nazi too.

And that’s part two done. What do you think of our list? Sound off in the comments and be sure to check out our Capcom wishlist too.
