Maid Sama!: Season 2 – Will It Happen?

Misaki Ayuzawa has enough to manage as the first female student council president of a formerly all-boys school. Keeping her after-school job at a maid café secret would be easier if Takumi Usui didn’t keep appearing there, looking far too pleased with himself.

Maid Sama! remains a popular romantic comedy, but popularity and an actual production announcement for a second season are unfortunately different things. Here’s the situation.

When Is Maid Sama!: Season 2 Coming Out?

In keeping with a show about keeping a secret, Maid Sama!: Season 2 has not been officially announced and has no confirmed release date.

The first and most recent television season ended on 23 September 2010, after 26 episodes. A separate bonus OVA was subsequently released, but that wasn’t a second season or a continuation of comparable length.

More than sixteen years have now passed since the television finale. There has been no verified cancellation announcement, but there is equally no announced studio, staff or production window for another season. Claims giving Season 2 a specific release year should therefore be regarded with the sort of suspicion Misaki normally reserves for idle Seika High boys.

The completed source manga leaves plenty available to adapt. That makes another season possible in story terms, although as it’s been so many years, it would be a bit of a shocker at this point.

What Could Maid Sama!: Season 2 Be About?

While nothing is confirmed, a second season could continue Misaki and Usui’s developing relationship while revealing considerably more about Usui’s background.

Their situation would hardly become straightforward overnight. Misaki remains fiercely protective of her independence and reluctant to let romance interfere with her responsibilities, while Usui’s preferred communication method often seems to involve appearing unexpectedly and refusing to explain himself properly.

A continuation could also give Hinata a larger role following his return to Misaki’s life. His feelings create another complication, though the more substantial material ahead concerns why Usui keeps so much of his family life hidden.

The manga moves the relationship beyond the anime’s stopping point and introduces challenges involving social expectations, separation and Misaki’s plans for the future. There is enough here for genuine development rather than another 26 episodes of somebody nearly discovering the maid uniform, amusing though that remains.

Where Can You Watch Maid Sama!?

In the US, the series is available by subscription through HIDIVE and the HIDIVE Amazon Channel. Amazon Video and Fandango at Home also offer digital purchases.

The Amazon channel is a separate paid subscription and isn’t included with standard Prime.

Can You Read The Manga While You Wait?

Yes. VIZ Media publishes Hiro Fujiwara’s complete original manga in English as nine 2-in-1 editions, collecting all 18 Japanese volumes.

This is the source manga rather than an adaptation of a light novel, and it carries Misaki and Usui’s story well beyond the television ending.

Starting from Volume 1 provides the complete version, while readers mainly interested in new material can continue beyond the anime’s covered events. Either approach is more productive than expecting Usui to volunteer a clear explanation for anything.
