Mafia III Confirmed on 2K’s Twitter Account, More Details at Gamescon

Mafia III

In a weird move which shows just how strange video game marketing is, 2K have moved to reveal Mafia III will have a reveal trailer next week. It’s kind of like telling someone you’re going to punch them, but okay.

Rumoured to be in development for a while by 2K Czech, the team behind the first two titles in series, this tweet just concretes the whispers that have been going around since a voice actor from the franchise, Rick Pasqualone, tweeted his excitement back in January saying: “Might have some Mafia news very soon!”

Details will continue to be hard to come by until next week at Gamescon 2015 when Mafia III has its full reveal and we have just the single screenshot above to go off for now. If you squint, it looks like the car is from the 60’s, a later era than typical for the series, which suggests that its moving forward through the decades. Obviously this is just speculation until next week, but it looks like a pretty safe bet.

It will be interesting to see what the team behind Mafia III do to try and compete with the likes of GTA V or whether they do at all. Not all sandbox crime games have to follow the template set by Rockstar and for the third installment in the Mafia series to really stand out above the crowd, they might just have to.
