Long Live Mouse Rat: Browsing Their “Unique” Website

Parks and Recreation may be over, but their one of a kind rock band shall live on.

Andy Dwyer, portrayed by Guardians of the Galaxy lead Chris Pratt, was the front man of legendary Pawnee band Mouse Rat formerly known as many other names such as Just the Tip or The Andy Andy Andy’s. Mouse Rat appeared to be the only name that stuck and fans of the show are very happy about their website also sticking around.

The website is set up just as any other band’s would be – giving you an insight into the members, “history” (also known as “previous names”) as well as allowing you to download their songs, which include“5000 Candles in the Wind” – a tribute to Pawnee legend Li’l Sebastian. Other hits such as “Ann Song” and “The Pit” are also available. Throughout the show, Andy clearly conveyed his love and appreciation of his band and therefore having the website up and running even after the show has finished makes myself as a fan feel like there will always be a bit of Parks and Recreation around me.

As a huge fan of Parks and Recreation, I am sad to see it end but having this website as a relic of one of my favourite characters is definitely helping the healing process. Chris Pratt played Andy so well with a balance between the silly and goofy while also being lovable and sweet – he created this character everyone wanted present in their life. It led me to believe we all need an Andy Dwyer around us. Parks and Rec lead actress Amy Poehler had a chapter within her book “Yes, Please” dedicated to the show where she spoke of the cast members and what they brought to the show as well as her life. She states that Chris Pratt “actually plays the guitar and has helped write Mouse Rat songs” throughout the show. Clearly he began believing in his character’s dedication for the band just like every viewer.

The website is linked through the official Parks and Recreation site and can be found at www.scarecrowboat.com due to one of Mouse Rat’s previous names being “Scarecrow Boat.” When Parks and Recreation ended, it was like hearing your favourite band had broken up but the news of the website staying online made it feel like the 10 year reunion had come early. It made me overwhelmed with happiness due to them still being around but not having to pay £200 to see them try and mirror what they had before right in front of my eyes.
