Lili Reinhart’s Chemical Hearts Promises Heart-Breaking Young Romance

"That being young is so painful, it's almost too much to feel."

Amazon Studios just released the official trailer for Chemical Hearts, starring Lili Reinhart and Austin Abrams. Reinhart is most known for her role as Betty Cooper in CW’s Riverdale, while Austin Abrams played Ethan in HBO’s Euphoria, so we know both actors are able to channel the teenage angst required for their roles in Chemical Hearts.

Abrams’ Henry Page has never been in love. He fancies himself a romantic, but the kind of once-in-a-lifetime love he’s been hoping for just hasn’t happened yet. Then, on the first day of senior year, he meets transfer student Grace Town (Lili Reinhart) and it seems all that is about to change. When Grace and Henry are chosen to co-edit the school paper, he is immediately drawn to her. However, it gets complicated because Grace is battling her own personal demons.

Chemical Hearts is adapted from the novel Our Chemical Hearts by Krystal Sutherland. The film is a coming-of-age story, which explores what it means to be young and “in limbo”. The film also stars Kara Young as Lola, C.J. Hoff as Murray, Sarah Jones as Sadie, Adhir Kalyan as Kem Sharma and Bruce Altman as Toby. Richard Tanne, director of critically acclaimed Southside With You, which is a retelling of Barrack and Michelle Obama’s first date, is both the director and writer for this film.

Chemical Hearts will be available to stream August 21, 2020.
