Like A Dragon: Ishin has a bevy of different moves and abilities across several styles for you to learn, from Brawler to the charmingly named Wild Dancer. However, as you’ve gone into your Abilities screen to unlock new moves, you’ve no doubt discovered that some abilities are locked and you cannot spend your orbs on them.
To unlock these abilities, you must visit the relevant dojos and learn them from the sensei there. This mechanic becomes available from Chapter 3 onwards.
The first dojo you will likely encounter will be the Brawler dojo, Komaki Dojo, shortly after the chapter begins at the following location.
You’ll come across a young man being thrown out of his dojo by his cantankerous sensei. Follow him back inside and after some conversation you will wind up in a training exercise to evade attacks by pressing A/X twice and using Komaki Dharma Tumbler. Do this three times and you will have learned your first unlocked ability in Ishin.
Bear in mind, however, that you will still need to use Soul Orbs to learn these abilities. You can also return to the same dojo to keep learning locked abilities, but you’ll have to have completed a battle before you can continue your ability unlocking. There are different dojos all around Kyo, so get exploring.
