Jon Bernthal May Return As Shane In The Walking Dead Season 9

The Walking Dead shane

Cultured Vultures spoilers

The best thing about The Walking Dead during its early run (don’t dispute that) may be about to make his return to the show in its ninth season. Don’t expect Glen levels of dumpster diving, though, it’s likely just going to be a cameo.

Jon Bernthal, who showed that he could rub his own head with the best of them, is set to reprise his role as Shane: the best friend of protagonist Rick who spiralled out of control by the end of its second season. After impregnating Rick’s wife and then trying to kill him a couple of times, they weren’t on the best of terms, which led Rick to kill Shane in a very Western moment under an absolutely gigantic moon.

Bernthal’s return has been speculated by TV Line, with the rumours beginning around the time a fan papped he, Andrew Lincoln (Rick) and Norman Reedus (Darryl, also professional baby carrier) and posted it to Instagram.

What’s most interesting about this is that if Bernthal were to make an appearance in the show’s ninth season, it would almost certainly be as part of a hallucination scene, just as it was in season 3 when Rick imagined Shane. With Lincoln set to walk away from the show, expect Shane to appear before him in his dying moments. Heck, we may even see a The Last Supper moment where everyone close to Rick, such as Lori and Carl, are shown to send him off.

With The Walking Dead almost certainly having run its course by now, season 9 should probably be its final hurrah. It’s way past its best and the rot has set in just like the zombies it so rarely shows anymore, and with its beating heart set to walk out, it’s time for AMC to call it a day.

Let me ask you something: would you be happy to see Shane in The Walking Dead again?
