NXT’s Halloween Havoc special will go down in history as a night of big returns and big title changes. Damian Priest opened the show in a Devil’s Playground match against his rival, Johnny Gargano. Having already picked up a victory over the former NXT Champion at TakeOver: 31, many fans believed this was the final nail in the coffin for ‘Johnny Wrestling’s run at the North American title.
Much to our surprise, it was in fact Gargano who walked away with the win and his second North American Championship.
Although the win wasn’t entirely clean. Taking advantage of the rules determined by Shotzi Blackheart’s stipulation wheel, a Scream-masked invader assaulted Priest with a steel pipe, then handed Gargano part of the set to start hammering away with. Unfortunately, this spelt the end for ‘The Archer of Infamy’ and his reign as North American Champion.

With Johnny Gargano now back on top of the mid-card, expect to see even more heel shenanigans from the Gargano family, and even more matches that almost break the Meltzer star system.
