Johnny Elite Debuts On AEW Dynamite As Joker Entrant

Great name.

John Morrison

The former John(ny) Morrison/Nitro/Impact/Mundo made his All Elite Wrestling debut by filling in the Joker spot for the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament on this week’s Dynamite. Johnny Elite, who was released from his WWE contract late last year, surprised everyone including his opponent Samoa Joe, who he was later defeated by to halt his dreams of winning the first Owen Hart tournament in AEW.

This is a huge get for AEW regardless of whether Johnny has lost some momentum since his apathetic return run in WWE. Johnny Elite has once been one of the most talked about independent wrestlers, championing a hybrid style of wrestling and parkour, wowing audiences with a plethora of insane high-flying moves.

He and Samoa Joe were a perfect match for one another, even in defeat, Johnny Elite looked great coming out of his AEW debut match. There’s no current word on whether Johnny Elite has been signed to a full-time deal with AEW, or whether this is just a one-time-only appearance. Regardless, it was great to see him emerge from the tunnels and hopefully we’ll be seeing more on him on the AEW roster in due course.

Samoa Joe will progress in the tournament to face Kyle O’Reilly on next week’s episode of AEW Dynamite.
