John Cena has been confirmed as the star of the upcoming Duke Nukem movie.

The 16-time World Champion may still be goading the Undertaker into accepting his WrestleMania challenge, but it seems he has no problem with his business outside of the ring.

The inclusion of Cena in the latest video game adaption sporting silver screen ambitions was confirmed by creators Andrew Form and Brad Fuller in an interview with CinemaBlend.

Form stated that although the project was currently without a script, Cena is very much on board.

“[I]f he reads the script and he doesn’t like the script I’m sure there’s ways that he could pull out, but right now he’s our guy” said Form.

Cena had been in talks with the film’s creators in late January and accepting the mantle of the wisecracking, tough-as-nails, pig-killing Nukem may be his biggest Hollywood project to date.

The Duke Nukem series comprises of four games released since 1991. The series’ beginnings as a side-scrolling MS-Dos shooter were in stark contrast to the later instalments.

Duke Nukem 3D and the long-delayed Duke Nukem Forever brought Duke to life as a rude and crude FPS. Duke Nukem 3D in particular attracted plenty of opprobrium for its depiction of women and ultra-violence.

Quaint by today’s standards, Duke Nukem’s non-PC attitude certainly got under some people’s skin.

There may be some difficulty in reconciling the hyper-positive, Never Give Up, PG-friendly Cena with the trash-talking ladies man that is Nukem, but that’s for the Hollywood boffins to sort out.

For now, Cena should stock up on bubblegum and get ready to kick some ass.
