Jim Carrey To Play Dr. Eggman In Live-Action Sonic the Hedgehog Movie

Eggman

Deadline have reported that Jim Carrey has signed on to play the iconic villain Dr. Robotnik (i.e Dr. Eggman) in the live-action/CGI Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Whether Carrey will dress as the character or simply provide his voice for the villain is yet to be announced, but those familiar with the franchise will know that unlike Sonic and friends, Dr. Robotnik is actually human so it is possible we could see Carrey with an aesthetic as bizarre as Stanley Ipkiss in The Mask, or Grinch in How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Jim Carrey has been out of the limelight for a while, choosing to spend his time making art as revealed in Jim Carrey: I Needed Color. In 2017, he starred in Netflix documentary Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond, which focused heavily on the controversy of his involvement in Man on the Moon, where he remained in character as Andy Kaufman, much to the dismay of others.

Sonic the Hedgehog, based on the popular SEGA franchise of the same name is scheduled for release on November 15th 2019 with Jeff Fowler set to direct the movie and written by Patrick Casey and Josh Miller. Currently, James Marsden and Tika Sumpter have signed on to play lead roles, however who they will be playing has yet to be revealed.
