Jack Swagger and WWE Part Ways

Jack Swagger has revealed he has been granted his release from the WWE.

Speaking to MMA fighter Chael Sonnen on his podcast Beyond the Fight, Swagger, a former Money in the Bank winner and ECW, United States and World Heavyweight Champion, said he had made a formal request to be released from WWE.

His previous World Title runs were reportedly nixed due to violations of the company’s wellness policy.

Swagger went on to explain that it was ‘a business decision’ and that he didn’t feel that the WWE had valued him how he thought he should be valued during recent contract negotiations. He also said that he felt the company was not allowing him to make the kind of money he felt he should be making.

Whilst the All-American wrestler from The University of Oklahoma went on to say he would now look at pursuing other opportunities outside of wrestling, and even mixed martial arts, he added how he was excited at the broadened world of professional wrestling, mentioning his excitement about going to Mexico, Japan and the United Kingdom.

Jack finished the interview, seemingly in good spirits, asking his fans to be happy and citing himself being as hungry to succeed as he has been in years.

Although not a massive shock to anyone who follows WWE, it is certainly a shame to see someone as talented as Jack Swagger go quietly in to that good night. But it is ultimately understandable, as he was one of the few wrestlers to really gain nothing post-brand split, even after swapping from Raw to Smackdown (to admittedly little fan fare) where his push all but stopped there and then. Not to mention that he has been pretty much invisible since returning from injury, when he briefly feuded with Alberto Del Rio.

However, with a recent spate of departures from Impact Wrestling (and the company keenly offering contracts to newer talents) it wouldn’t be a surprise if we were to see the All-American headed that way soon. Not to mention now that Dutch Mantell (aka Zeb Colter) is now a member of their creative team, there is at least one person in the ranks of Impact who will have an idea or two of how to better utilise Swagger.

Here’s hoping Jack Swagger has better fortune in his future endeavours.
