It’s been a long, long wait for a brand new game in the Grand Theft Auto universe. And no, GTA Online doesn’t count. While GTA 6 is coming to consoles in November to end a 13-year drought, it seems like PC players may have a bit longer to wait yet. Though, it’s looking like it possibly won’t be as long as you might think.
Has Rockstar confirmed a PC launch?
Nope. The current official platform list does not include PC, but this was also the case with GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 before their ports were announced.
Current rumours suggest that we may be seeing GTA 6 in Q1 2027. This is obviously not confirmed, but it would mean GTA 6 would launch on PC between January and March 2027. That could mean either a 2 or 4 month wait for PC players.
How long did GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 take to reach PC?
Rockstar has kept PC players waiting before, although the gaps have varied:
GTA 5 launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 on 17 September 2013, then reached PC on 14 April 2015. That was a wait of almost 19 months from the original console release, with PS4 and Xbox One versions arriving in between.
Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on PS4 and Xbox One on 26 October 2018, followed by PC on 5 November 2019: one year and ten days later.
Why release GTA 6 on consoles first?
GTA 6 could well be the last game of its kind able to get away with making PC players wait this long. These days, with AAA games as eye-wateringly expensive as they are to make, not many new releases have enough pull to leave such a large audience waiting without losing their attention.
For Rockstar, the commercial appeal is fairly obvious: it effectively gets two launches. The console release gets its own enormous moment, then a later PC version can generate another round of coverage and sales, including from some people buying the game again for better performance, graphics or mods.
Most publishers would struggle to make the same demand. GTA can probably get away with it.
Is an early 2027 release confirmed?
Again, no. Reports suggesting a release window are not the same as an announcement from Rockstar.
Until Rockstar publishes its own date, avoid treating that window as something you can plan a purchase or an increasingly wild modlist around.
Are official PC requirements available?
Well, obviously, no. But we would expect that you’d need at least a 5070 Ti if you want to have 60fps and above on high settings, considering that the console versions will not be able to hit high framerates. Expect the game to make your graphics cards even more expensive than they already are. Also, clear out the hard drive.
