Is Death Stranding Coming To The Epic Games Store?

There are quite a few signs it will.

Kojima Productions and 505 Games today (October 28th) announced that Death Stranding will be definitively coming to PC, the latter the publisher for the game.

Previously thought of as a PS4 exclusive, a since deleted Q&A back in 2015 revealed that the then unannounced Death Stranding would be coming to PC after initially launching on the PlayStation 4. This hasn’t stopped the news from being a bit of a surprise for many, though Death Stranding will remain as a console exclusive.

Interestingly, however, no PC storefront has been announced for Death Stranding just yet, but “additional details about the PC release of Death Stranding will be revealed in the near future,” according to a press release from 505 Games.

This has led to some speculation that Death Stranding will be coming to the Epic Games Store, primarily down to the lack of information on where it will be playable on PC. It’s become usual for publishers and developers to not initially specify storefronts if the Epic Games Store is the eventual destination. This could also just mean that 505 are still in the negotiation stage with multiple storefronts.

Backing up the EGS possibility is the publisher itself, 505 Games. 505 inked a deal earlier in the year to bring Control exclusively to the Epic Games Store for a year, though they have published a few games, such as Bloodstained and Indivisible, since that are not exclusive.

Perhaps the most compelling sign of Death Stranding coming to the Epic Games Store is that the IP itself actually belongs to Sony.

Sony have a prior relationship with the Epic Games Store, the former publishing ReadySet Heroes on the latter as well as the PlayStation 4. Peculiarly, there’s no Steam page for ReadySet Heroes, so it may be a pure EGS exclusive.

This new partnership was a pretty significant step from Sony, who not long ago revealed that they would be interested in bringing some of their IPs to PC, too. There’s now also talk of Dreams coming to PC.

Nothing is confirmed just yet, but signs are certainly pointing towards EGS exclusivity for Death Stranding. Almost all EGS exclusives have timed exclusivity before eventually landing on Steam, but with Sony apparently being friendly with EGS, could that be about to change?

Whatever the case, it’s going to be interesting to watch this one unfold.

Death Stranding launches on PS4 on November 8th. The PC version will arrive in 2020.
