Jukebox The Ghost, the popular alternative-pop band from Washington D.C., prepares to drop their next album Off To The Races this upcoming March. After years without producing new albums, this news is exciting for old and new fans of the power-trio alike. In preparation, Jukebox The Ghost prepares to take on an American tour which ranges from the lower 48 states from coast to coast. Jukebox The Ghost is made up of Ben Thornewill, Tommy Siegel, and Jesse Kristin since 2003.

The band said that the release of Off To The Races the was the most anticipated part of their comeback to music and are excited to put new songs out into the world. “It’s been three years since our last release – far too long,” they said.

New content that will be released has been said to be “a record that grabs some of the adventurous and complex musical qualities of our earlier albums and puts them together with the pop sensibility of the newer albums.” The first song that is on the record, ‘Jumpstarted,’ has over one-hundred vocal tracks that filter in and out of the track, such as percussion would. The band claims that the idea of vocal-mixing is new, different, and risky.

“The album title Off To The Races is a nod to [the band] Queen, a line from the song ‘Jumpstarted,’ and we thought a strange, multicolored horse would reflect that perfectly. We also wanted to have our faces on the cover for the first time,” the band said as they reflected on the design of the album’s cover, which is diverse compared to art that has been placed on the front of former records.

A majority of the recording for the new album had been done in Boston, and each track was enjoyable for the band to produce. “[We] got to play with putting a grand piano through a guitar amp and drums through a blown-out tape machine,” they said, “The experimentation we got to do in the studio made every song exciting.”

The response to the single ‘Everybody’s Lonely’ thrilled Jukebox The Ghost as the band’s older fans appreciated the “quirkiness”  of the style that was used, while newer fans appreciated the “pop-in-your-face” aspect about it as well. Spotify had featured the track on its Indie Highlights playlist. In response, the band said that they are always happy to be put on playlists, radio stations, or even have their music purchased, and want their music to be heard by as many people as possible.

Ben Thornewill, vocalist and pianist for the band, had received a request from actor Harrison Ford (Star Wars, Indiana Jones) for a piano cover of ‘Everybody’s Lonely’. “It is always nice to be admired by someone you admire,” Thornewill said in response to the inquiry, “Ford is a legend.”

The tour for Off To The Races tour will kick off on April 10 in Philadelphia, PA, and conclude on May 25 in California. ‘Everyone’s Lonely’ can currently be heard on the radio, on streaming devices, or on the album when it is released this Spring.
