Hyperkin Announce Pre-Orders For DualSense-Inspired Xbox Controller

The Competitor,
The Competitor,

Hyperkin has announced that The Competitor, the PlayStation 5 DualSense inspired controller for Xbox and PC players, is available to pre-order from today. The controller is expected to begin shipping on October 29th, so if you’re in the market for a new controller, you’ve got a few weeks to stick your name down.

Unveiled back in January, Hyperkin’s The Competitor is an officially licensed controller designed to bring the symmetrical thumbstick design of the DualShock and DualSense to Xbox and PC gamers. Personal preference is everything in gaming, after all, so more controllers that give players an affordable alternative to the standard controller is always a good thing.

There’s other worthwhile talking points here, including the segmented d-pad design and cushioned action buttons, but the real star of the show is the thumbsticks. Alongside the alternative placement, the Hall-Effect thumbsticks are designed to give players smooth gameplay and eliminate the perils of stick drift. Speaking from personal experience with a currently drifting Xbox controller, the amount of Reddit comments suggesting I learn how to solder Hall Effect sensors into my stock Xbox controller makes a controller like The Competitor more enticing.

Rounding out the controller’s design are Hall Effect triggers, laser textured grip for those who get a bit sweaty during ranked games, removable stick caps for those who want with convex or concave sticks, and twin programmable back buttons. Those back buttons alone will make it infinitely easier to perform some of the more complicated grab tricks in Skate, let me tell you. Right stick up + RT + X for a Benihana? My old hands can’t take it.

Hyperkin’s The Competitor is available to pre-order now from all your usual retailers for the respectable price of $49.99 / €49.99 / £39.99, and it comes in either White, Black, Gold or Blue (gold and blue pre-orders are TBD in North America right now though).
