As a sequel to the highly praised cult favorite Helldivers, developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, the smash hit Helldivers 2 continues the legacy of its predecessor by offering an even more engaging and challenging PTSD simulator that’s almost custom designed to feature on highlight reels. The original Helldivers set a high bar with its strategic depth, rewarding teamwork, and intense action, making it a beloved game among its fans, but few could have predicted its sequel’s rampant success. Can Xbox players also look forward to jumping in on the action any time soon? The short answer is no. The long answer? Also no.
There has been no official announcement from Arrowhead Game Studios regarding Helldivers 2’s availability on Xbox platforms, whether that’s the Series range or Xbox One, and that is unlikely to change. The game’s release has primarily been focused on PlayStation and PC, following the pattern set by its predecessor.
Xbox players have been left waiting and hoping for news that the game will expand its reach to include them, allowing for a broader audience to enjoy the unique blend of cooperative play and challenging dives into literal Hell that Helldivers 2 offers. However, the chances of Helldivers 2 coming to Xbox are pretty slim, as the game is published by PlayStation themselves, a major rival to Xbox. While we’re now seeing Xbox-owned IP turning up on PlayStation, we’ve only ever seen the likes of MLB make the opposite trip, and that’s only because the license holders firmly requested it.
Fans on Xbox are really craving something to fill the Halo Reach-sized hole in their library, and it’s easy to see why. Both Helldivers 2 and Halo are set in richly detailed science fiction universes. They feature futuristic technology, alien races, and interstellar warfare, offering players immersive worlds to explore. The levels in Helldivers 2 tend to be more open-ended, allowing for a variety of approaches to completing objectives (and for it to all fall down). Halo, especially in its original game, captured this same feeling.
