Han Solo’s Blaster Prop Sells For A Huge Amount At Auction

Let’s face it, we all wish we could own props from the Star Wars movies in our homes. But most of us aren’t rolling in cash, so we can only dream of purchasing such items when they go up for auction. Although clearly, business must be booming for the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! organization, because they were able to purchase the prop used for Han Solo’s blaster in Return of the Jedi at a Las Vegas auction for an incredible $550,000.

The auction took place at the Planet Hollywood casino-resort, and mostly consisted of items from the collection of art director James L. Schoppe. It included an Imperial Scout Trooper Blaster, which sold for $90,625, and a Superman III costume worn by Christopher Reeve, which went for a huge $200,000. One of the items not from Schoppe’s collection was a dress worn by Marilyn Monroe, which was purchased by the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation for $50,000.

In the Star Wars movies, Han Solo wields a modified DL-44 heavy blaster pistol, and fans will always tell you that he used it to shoot first, although George Lucas clearly disagrees. Anyway, there’s currently no word on what Ripley’s Believe It or Not! are planning to do with the blaster prop, but we can probably assume that it will be displayed in one of their museums at some point in the near future.
