The Han Solo Spinoff Film Has Started Shooting

After being announced back in 2015, Disney’s Han Solo spinoff movie has now finally started filming. it’s being directed by The Lego Movie’s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, with the latter confirming that filming is underway (and giving a huge middle finger to the changes made by George Lucas in the 1997 Special Edition) in the following tweet:

Alden Ehrenreich, who was mesmerizing in last year’s Hail, Caesar!, will be playing the lead role of Han Solo, making him the only actor aside from Harrison Ford to have portrayed the character onscreen. Donald Glover be joining Ehrenreich as smooth-talking gambler Lando Calrissian, who was originally bought to life by Billy Dee Williams in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

In addition to the return of Han and Lando, Oscar nominee Woody Harrelson will star as Garris Shrike, a brand new character who will presumably be the film’s primary antagonist, whilst the Dragon Queen herself, Emilia Clarke, has also been cast in an unspecified role. No word yet on who’ll play Han’s furry 7′ 6” sidekick, but we expect to find out soon.

We also don’t know much about the plot of the film other than that it will follow the exploits of a young Han Solo before the events of A New Hope. Fan favorite characters Boba Fett and Jabba the Hutt both played key roles in Han’s early life, and given their enormous popularity, it’s likely that they’ll also be showing up.

Prepare for another journey into the Galaxy far, far away when the currently untitled Han Solo Anthology film arrives on 25 May 2018.
