Halo: The Master Chief Collection Getting A Big Update This Summer

It’s been three and a half years since Halo: The Master Chief Collection dropped on the Xbox One, and whilst the idea behind it was decent, the game was plagued with matchmaking issues, dodgy UI and plenty of awful shenanigans. In a move that can only be described as “better late than never”, 343 Industries have announced that the game will be getting an update this summer which should fix everything, “should” being the operative word there.

In a blog post on Halo Waypoint, the team have outlined a number of fixes and changes which should be coming to all players at some time in Summer. Given the heatwave the UK is having, it feels like Summer already, so can we have our update please?

The main changes in the pipeline are as follows:

  • Intelligent Install
  • Xbox One X Visual Enhancements
  • HDR/SDR Calibration Settings
  • Networking and Matchmaking Improvements (Continuous Matchmaking, Network/Multiplayer API updates)
  • P1 & P2 Bug Fixes
  • LAN Support
  • UI & UX Updates (Main Menu, Title Screen Video, Button States/Highlight States)

The team are also working on texture streaming, which they’ve said has reduced multiplayer map load time by approximately 35-40%, which is a considerable improvement. Also, features such as the custom game browser are still being worked on, so you’ll have to wait for another update for that.

The timing of this announcement and its scheduled release is interesting, as E3 is basically right around the corner. Perhaps a Halo 6 reveal is on the cards. You know it’s going to happen at some point. Even if it’s not this year, we’re just happy to see Halo: MCC find its feet.

Will you be playing Halo: The Master Chief Collection when the new update comes out, or have you been burnt too much by its shoddy launch? Sound off in the comments below, and check out what we thought about Impact Winter. The snow might take your mind off the heatwave.
