Almost 20 Years Later, Half-Life Has A New Patch

Did someone at Valve have too much caffeine? The original Half-Life, widely seen as one of the best games ever made, has just received a patch nineteen years after its original release.

The patch is nothing major, sadly. Just a series of bug fixes for old problems, like the following:

– Fixed crash when entering certain malformed strings into the game console.
– Fixed crash when loading a specially crafted malformed BSP file.
– Fixed malformed SAV files allowing arbitrary files to be written into the game folder.
– Fixed a crash when quickly changing weapons that are consumable.
– Fixed crash when setting custom decals.

Even if this only serves a few people, it’s good to see Valve still supporting one of the games that it built its dynasty upon.

While it’s unlikely they’ve snuck in a series of lambdas with the number 3 emblazoned on them, I currently have a team scouring every inch of the game just in case. Wish us luck.
