Arc System Works have announced that Guilty Gear Strive, the latest entry in the long-running fighting game series, will be launching on April 9th for PC, PS4 and PS5, and you can celebrate this news with a brand new trailer that you can watch for yourself at the top of the page.
What Happened To The Original Release Date?
Guilty Gear Strive’s release date was pushed back indefinitely earlier this year, with Arc System Works citing the struggles of working from home due to COVID-19. The developers also noted that they’d be using the extra time to ensure that the game was as polished as it could be, using the results and feedback from the closed beta test to improve the core experience. If you want to see for yourself what the closed beta was like, check out our preview coverage.
What Else Is New With Guilty Gear Strive?
Arc System Works have announced a new character joining the Strive roster, Giovanna, who you can check out for yourself in the trailer below. She’s a brawler with a wolf spirit creature that helps her in battle, and the wolf can be petted. Giovanna will be joining the 15 character roster that’ll be available in-game at launch. The trailer also ends with the announcement that we’ll be hearing more about Strive on New Year’s Day.
Speaking of launch, Guilty Gear Strive will launch with two special versions of the game that are both digital exclusive. The Deluxe Edition will come with a five character Season Pass, two extra stages and an “extra Story”, while the Ultimate Edition includes all of the above, plus the game’s official OST and some bonus colours for your fighters. The other added selling point is that Deluxe and Ultimate Edition owners will receive 3 days worth of early access, as the game will launch on April 6th.
It’s worth noting that PS4 to PS5 upgrades haven’t been confirmed as of yet by Arc System Works or publishers Bandai Namco. We’ve reached out to Bandai Namco UK for comment on whether or not Guilty Gear Strive will offer a next-gen upgrade, and will update this post if they respond.
