Guillermo Del Toro Conclusively Shoots Down Hellboy 3 Ever Happening

Hellboy 2

Bad news for anyone who likes their superheroes to be red and chainsmoking cigars: Hellboy 3 is absolutely not happening according to the man who took the comic book property to the big screen.

Guillermo del Toro took to Twitter today to kill dreams with just a few sentences that not only confirmed beyond doubt that it wasn’t going to happen, but also inferred that it isn’t something he wants to talk about. Can you blame the guy? It’s been a long road to get the project off the ground and it’s hit a brick wall.

Fans have been campaigning for a sequel to the criminally unverloved Hellboy II for years with Hellboy himself, Ron Perlman, doing everything he can to make it happen. At least he could see a funny side to it, though:

del Toro even recently ran a Twitter poll to ask his audience if they would like to see a return to the Hellboy universe. It was an emphatic “hell yes”, but apparently it wasn’t enough to convince the people who hold all the money. When you consider that even Ant-Man can get his own film, it hurts just a little bit more that nobody can find room for Hellboy on their slate.

Mads Mikkelsen is almost definitely behind this.
