Guardians Of The Galaxy’s Dave Bautista To Star In Action Comedy My Spy

Former wrestler Dave Bautista stunned critics and audiences with his performance as Drax the Destroyer in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, so it’s about time he was given more leading roles as opposed to being a supporting player.

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Bautista will star in the action comedy film My Spy, from Fifty First Dates and Get Smart director Peter Segal. Bautista will play a CIA operative who is tasked with going undercover to keep a family under surveillance, only to find himself at the mercy of their precocious nine-year-old daughter.

My Spy will be one of several films following distributor STX’s “custom-created” model, in which the studio will collaborate with established actors to develop projects from the ground up. The film’s script was written by The Meg’s Jon and Erich Hoeber, with Bautista producing alongside Jonathan Meisner and Chris Bender.

A release date for My Spy has yet to be confirmed, although Bautista will next be seen in the action thriller Final Score, which opens on September 7. The actor has also been an outspoken critic of Disney’s decision to fire James Gunn from the third Guardians of the Galaxy film, but it looks like his statements may have fallen on deaf ears.
