UPDATE: The Last of Us Part II’s Grounded Mode officially launches on August 13th, as confirmed by Sony with a new trailer.

Players will also be to make use of new gameplay modifiers, such as infinite ammo, and also new filters to change the appearance of the game.

ORIGINAL STORY: Masochists, sociopaths, and just plain insaniacs: your time has finally arrived with the upcoming introduction of Grounded into The Last of Us Part II.

Grounded trophies have been added ahead of the 1.03 update for The Last of Us Part II, which will also be bringing with it two different trophies for the total completionists out there: Dig Two Graves and You Can’t Stop This.

Though the trophies are currently active, Grounded is not yet in The Last of Us Part II.

It also looks as if a Permadeath Mode will be coming to the game, which basically means that if you die once at any point, your entire progress will be wiped. Just so you know, The Last of Us Part II is a 25-hour long game.

For those who are unfamiliar with the special brand of pain that Grounded provides, it takes hard difficulty to the next level, giving you barely any resources and killing you in hardly any time at all.

I completed Grounded Mode on the original The Last of Us and aged by many, many years throughout my slow, painstaking difficulty. It changed me as a person.

I don’t think I will be doing it for The Last of Us Part II as it’s a much, much longer game, though I am not quite as keen on the game generally speaking anyway.

If you are planning on completing Grounded for The Last of Us Part II and are after the Platinum, don’t forget that Grounded is like its own separate trophy set so you don’t need to beat it for that Plat.

Don’t do it. Don’t. The struggle is too, too much.

The Last of Us Part II is available now exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
