Grand Theft Auto’s Parent Company Are Looking Forward to Nintendo Switch

Take-Two, the guys who own Grand Theft Auto developers Rockstar Games, look like they’re getting behind the Nintendo Switch, as they were talking about the system in a conference call.

CEO Strauss Zelnick, as reported by Seeking Alpha, was excited about the possibilities Nintendo’s new baby offers:

“We’re excited about Switch. We’re supporting Switch with NBA 2K18. We’ve said we’re supporting the platform. I’ve said over and over again that when Nintendo comes to market you never want to count them out.

“So, we’re excited about it. The only thing we’ve announced so far is the basketball title.”

This is good news, but in no way shape or form should be construed as confirmation of a GTA title coming to the platform. In their long history, Nintendo and Rockstar have only collaborated on one game, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. It’s also worth questioning how the Switch would be able to handle such a large game, but seeing as how GTA V was previously on PS3 and Xbox 360, it’s not unlikely. Still, control your hype.

Also in the conference call, Zelnick bigged up the impressive performance of Grand Theft Auto and the company as a whole:

“As of December 31, 2016, we had over $1.4 billion in cash and short-term investments on our balance sheet. Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online continue to outperform our expectations as they have in every quarter since their release. Grand Theft Auto V remains the highest rated game of the current console generation and a must-have title for gamers on both console and PC with sell-in now surpassing 75 million units.”

The Nintendo Switch is due for release in March. It has fewer launch titles than even the Wii U, but when you have a new Legend of Zelda game in your locker, you might just be able to overlook a smaller selection.

As for Rockstar, their newest game is Red Dead Redemption 2, which has so far been confirmed for Xbox One and PS4. It could have been easier for them to just coast by on GTA V, a constantly updated game that even somehow managed to outsell Uncharted 4 last year, and its microtransactions, so it’s good that they’re taking their franchises forward.
