Godzilla Vs. Kong Director Adam Wingard Takes On Face/Off Reboot

Paramount must have been impressed with Wingard's efforts on Godzilla Vs. Kong.

Face Off

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Godzilla director Adam Wingard, who had his start in the horror genre, has been tapped by Paramount to direct the Face/Off reboot.

This project has been in development since 2019, but has yet to gain much traction. Seeing as how the original John Woo film is an iconic 90s film, there is perhaps more pressure for it to be done properly.

Who’s Involved?

Simon Barrett, a frequent collaborator of Winguard’s, will be working on the script with him. A script had been previously produced by 22 Jump Street writer Oren Uziel, but there isn’t any news as of yet whether or not the pair will continue from Uziel’s vision or scrap it and create their own idea of what a Face/Off reboot should look like.

As to which actors could fill the roles played by John Travolta and Nicolas Cage, this remains undetermined for now. Recent favourites were Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds (Reddit has been campaigning for them), especially since they have carried on a public faux feud with each other for ages.

In an interview with SiriuXM, Jackman said he would be open to doing the film with Reynolds. His one demand? “Is it possible to shoot it where we’re never actually together? I’m open to that.”

With James Cameron’s True Lies getting a reboot as a CBS TV series, I guess we’re at that point where all our favourite 90s films are up for grabs.
