Get ready to pay a visit to the girls of Stars Hollow once more. Netflix has announced that it will be bringing the Gilmore Girls back as a series of four movie-length episodes.
The news was first announced via Twitter as Lauren Graham (Lorelai Gilmore) shared her excitement with fans .
I CAN NOW CONFIRM: it’s time for me, and this jacket I stole in 2007, to return to work.@netflix #GilmoreGirls pic.twitter.com/tBb07J9oO1

Netflix confirmed the news exactly one minute following Graham’s tweet. The announcement was accompanied by a shout-out to the show’s original creator, Amy Sherman-Pallandino, who will be helping to make this follow-up production possible.
OY with the poodles, already! See you on set, Amy Sherman-Palladino, @thelaurengraham @alexisbledel. #GilmoreGirls pic.twitter.com/kM36J1JVgV

Rumors of the show’s return began circulating last year following talks between Warner Bros. and Netflix. While an agreement had been reached between the two companies, Pallandino told the public that no production plans were in the works and fans were left chewing their nails until now.
Sherman-Pallandino, along with husband and co-writer Daniel Pallandino, had carried the series to its sixth season in 2006 before ending involvement as result of a contract dispute with Warner Bros. The seventh and final season was described as a letdown by many fans. Several had concluded that the substandard finale was largely due to the absence of those who had made Gilmore Girls the success it was.
The Netflix release will be picking up where Warner Bros. left off and with Pallandino’s involvement, there is much excitement brewing in the fan community. While story details are still withheld, a clever framework has been described. The story is set to take place present day with roughly eight years of space following the series finale. Each of the episodes will correspond with one of the four-seasons, totaling a full calendar year.
Fans will also be pleased to know that a slew of the original cast members will be returning, including both Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Scott Patterson, Kelly Bishop, Sean Gunn and Keiko Agena. Sadly, at least one familiar face will be missed as Edward Hermann, who played the role of Richard Gilmore, passed away in 2014. Hermann, famous for his work other in other films including Lost Boys, was described by Pallandino as her first choice for the role of Richard.
While the official title of the GG reboot has yet to be announced, production is planned to commence early this year, so expect a title soon. Stay tuned as more details are sure to be announced.
