If you’re planning on playing the Anthem open beta this weekend on Xbox One but it crashes on you, Xbox would like you to know that they’ve got a back-up plan. For this weekend, Xbox Live Gold Members will be able to play Gears of War 4, including the campaign, multiplayer and horde mode.
Gears 4 introduced new characters like JD Fenix, along with a new enemy faction in the Swarm, and while it might not have been as instantly well received as other entries in the series, but it still offers the same superlative cover-to-cover shooting that the franchise has become synonymous with.
Gold Members will be able to download and play Gears of War 4 as part of their membership from Thursday 31st January at 12:01 am PT / 8:01 am GMT until Sunday 3rd February at 11:59 pm PT / Monday 4th February 07:59 am GMT. As usual, any progress made during the free weekend will be carried over if you purchase the full game, or if you subscribe to Xbox Game Pass and download the game through that. Just don’t expect to complete the Seriously 4.0 achievement in one weekend. That’d be insanity.
