Funko Reveal Pikachu Pop! Vinyl, Their First Ever Nintendo Product

Pikachu

The day we never thought would come is finally here. Toy company Funko will be releasing a Pikachu Pop! Vinyl figure. Funko revealed on their website that the figure will be exclusive to Target stores, and will be released in July. Have a look at the first image of the adorable Electric-type Pokémon in Pop! form in his packaging below. Don’t you just want to tear him to pieces?

The reason why this is such momentous news is because the Pikachu Pop! Vinyl will be the first ever Funko product depicting a licensed Nintendo character. In the past, Funko have referred to obtaining the rights to Nintendo brands as being like hunting the ‘White Whale’ due to the fact that the Japanese gaming publisher have been notoriously reluctant to allow the toy company to make products of any of their characters. This was not helped by the fact that during an investor’s presentation earlier this year, Funko incorrectly stated that they had obtained the EarthBound license, before quickly pointing out on Twitter that they did not know if this was correct.

Either way, it looks like Funko must employ a lot of Ishmaels, because they were clearly able to reach an agreement with Nintendo to allow the Pikachu figure to go ahead. Whether or not this means we’ll be seeing more Pop! Vinyl figures of Nintendo characters remains to be seen, but let’s hope that this is the start of a beautiful friendship between the two companies. I want my Mario Pop! Vinyl figure, goddammit!
