While Forza Horizon 5 might seem like just a random sandbox of cars and fun, there’s a point to everything, as you’re attempting to extend the Horizon Festival’s reach in Mexico while also building enough in the way of Accolades for you to claim your rightful place as part of the Horizon Hall of Fame. For anyone who’s just started playing Forza Horizon 5 after sticking with 4 for so long, Accolades are a completely different system.

Here’s everything you need to know about how Accolades work in Forza Horizon 5.

Forza Horizon 5: How Do Accolades Work?

As mentioned, Accolades are a completely different system to Forza Horizon 4, in which every action earned some kind of Influence, which tied into both your player level and the level for each individual discipline like road racing, dirt racing, drift stunts and so on. Instead, Forza Horizon 5 features both XP and Accolades.

As you’d expect, performing most actions like winning races, earning stars in Horizon Story events or PR Stunts and others, will earn XP that’s used to level up, but each also comes with challenges that earn Accolades. For instance, earning one, two and three stars in a stunt jump each come with their own Accolade and score, while a race event might feature two Accolades, one for finishing the race and another for winning.

The Accolades you earn can offer rewards like new cosmetics, or new cars, but their main purpose is to progress you towards the next Horizon chapter, where you can unlock new racing disciplines, events and ways to interact with the world of Forza Horizon 5. The Accolade requirement for each Horizon chapter is fairly lenient, meaning you can make progression in the way you see fit. If you’d rather complete stunts and explore instead of formal race events, that’s just as viable for making your way through the game than finishing first in every race.

Forza Horizon 5 is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S.
