Fortnite Vaults Burst Rifles, Nerfs Planes & Boom Boxes, Adds New Sniper & More

RIP BR in this BR.

In what is undoubtedly the biggest overhaul to the game since Season 7 began, Epic Games have released a raft of tweaks, additions, and removals as part of their final content update for Fortnite v7.10.

First off, the most important change is the removal of the Burst Rifles below the Epic variety. That means the Common, Uncommon, and Rare variants have all been vaulted with no explanation as to why. They may be getting adjusted or they may not come back at all.

Next up, the much-maligned planes (officially the Stormwing X-4s) and Boom Boxes have had some very necessary nerfs. The planes can now take a lot less damage from ramming structures before exploding and can also not make other players fly across the map on contact. It’s also had its machine gun heavily nerfed with the spread being increased by 75%, which is on top of the increase it already received post-launch. Meanwhile, the Boom Boxes will take 200 less HP to destroy with a duration reduction of seven seconds and are now rarer by 33%.

Other notable changes include the reintroduction of the Dual Pistols and the subsequent vaulting of the Six Shooter, which felt overdue. Dynamite has also been nerfed with it being 40% less common, which makes sense as the stuff was absolutely everywhere. Oh, and let’s not forget the rumoured Suppressed Sniper Rifle is now also in the game, trading power for sneakiness with a base damage of 100/105 in Epic and Legendary variants respectively.

Whew, quite the update. Time will only tell if the nerfs have been implemented correctly; for my money, they should explode and do 100 damage. It’s sad to see one of the game’s mainstay weapons go, the Burst Rifle, but any match with a first chest that holds a BR is typically a cursed one.
