Fortnite Season 6 Map Changes: Loot Lake, Shadow Stones, The Haunted Castle

Fortnite Shadow Stones

It’s here! Fortnite players were today greeted to a new update ready to download, which brought with it a brand new Battle Pass, a plethora of cosmetic upgrades, and some huge changes to the island that has evolved constantly since its creation just over a year ago – all in the form of Season 6.

After a few quick games in the new update, I noticed a whole bunch of alterations and additions – some huge, and some much more subtle. Below are three of the main ones that players will come across when they drop:

1. Floating Loot Lake

Fortnite Loot Lake

As some predicted, Loot Lake underwent some huge changes with this patch. After the mysterious cube dissolved into the lake itself, it seemed only natural that it wouldn’t be the last we saw of what the community lovingly referred to as ‘Kevin’.

And it certainly wasn’t, as the cube has not only elevated the central house into the air, but created a hypnotic wormhole/portal beneath. It’s impossible to fall into this as far as I can tell, but it’s fun to float around on regardless.

Oh, that’s right: you can now fly all around this area, even after landing. Loot Lake’s elevation has caused some kind of tornado effect, which means leaping off the edge now causes you to fly around and allows the redeployment of your glider. It’s mental.

2. Shadow Stones

Epic really have a thing for sinister purple pick-ups that radically alter gameplay.

Similar to the Hop Rocks introduced way back when, Shadow Stones can now be found around the map at locations previously marked by the glowing purple symbols that the Cube left in its wake.

Once consumed, they’ll alter your character in various ways. First, you’ll be a semi-invisible wraith figure, that floats around and dashes with a quick press of the right trigger. You’ll also be able to jump as if gravity barely existed, and remaining stationary will cause you to become all but invisible.

These effects last for a maximum of 45-seconds, so expect this to divide fans as to whether it’s perfectly fair, or hideously overpowered. The balance comes in that you can’t attack or perform many other actions while in this state, and holding the left bumper will cause you to prematurely return to your regular form.

3. The Haunted Castle

Fortnite Haunted Castle

Located just East of Haunted Hills, this unnamed point-of-interest sits atop the already vast mountain.

I haven’t been able to properly explore without being murdered just yet, but its location means that it will likely be a hotspot – at least in these early days after the update dropped. With four huge towers at each corner and multiple layers within, this ghoulish castle will hopefully be the subject of gradual change in the lead up to Halloween.

Those are they key changes I came across in my first few games with Fortnite Season 6, but are there any that I’ve missed? Feel free to let me know, down below.
