Stuck in the past.

UPDATE: The update is now available for PS4 players.

ORIGINAL STORY: Despite it now being available for other platforms, Fortnite players on PlayStation 4 are currently unable to access the v14.50 update for the game and will be stuck in v14.40 for the foreseeable future.

The news was shared on Twitter following PS4 players questioning where their update was during the game’s downtime for v14.50, which is now up.

Are They Getting IOS’d?

No, don’t worry, there’s almost no chance there’s another Apple situation going on here.

The likeliest explanation is that there have been some issues with the PS4 version, that’s it. The issues have likely been caused by the game’s next-gen upgrades, which were being set up in this patch. There’s a lot that’s being tweaked to show off the power of next-gen, so it’s almost certainly because the PS4 build isn’t taking to it too well.

For now, PS4 players will be experiencing the older version of the game, though there isn’t a gigantic amount of difference between both patches.

When Will v14.40 Release?

We don’t know yet, but Epic will be issuing an update when they have fixed things. Based on the wording of their tweet, it seems like the PS4 update may be a little while away. For now, PS4 players will only be able to play with other PS4 players; cross-play will be disabled due to the version conflicts.

Elsewhere in Fortnite, it looks like the OG default skins will be returning to the game, but only as Item Shop skins, which is a very interesting business decision.

Fortnite: Chapter 2 – Season 4 is free-to-play on PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Android.
