Spoilers for Peacemaker follow…
Epic Games has just announced that they’ve decided to disable an emote in Fortnite that’s based on the dance number from the opening of Peacemaker: Season 2, and it’s not because of John Cena’s forceful hips.
“We’re disabling the Peaceful Hips Emote in Fortnite as we inquire into our partner’s creative intentions in this collab emote. Assuming it’s not coming back, we’ll issue refunds in the next few days. Sorry folks.”
Peaceful Hips has been vaulted from all purchasers, at least for the time being, as Epic tries to figure out how they could’ve let an emote that might or might not be signifying a Nazi salute slip them by in their game marketed to kids.
Here’s the emote in action so you can make your own mind up.
The missing context here does need you to have watched Peacemaker: Season 2, in which it’s revealed that Nazi Germany won World War II on “Earth X,” which is basically an alternate timeline which James Gunn uses as a canon-correcting tool.
This seeming miscommunication between DC and Epic might come down to Gunn actually holding the twist very close to his chest, with nobody outside of production being aware of Earth X’s, erm, proclivities until the big reveal. Gunn even declined to air the episode to critics to keep it under wraps.
Still, this is one of those cases where it feels like if you’re going to collaborate with a mature show and mature properties…maybe don’t be surprised if a swastika turns up in your Skibidi Toilet metaverse sometimes?
I’d also like to maybe get an update on all the D4VD content in the game, Epic?
