Firewalk Studios, a team of veteran game developers, have announced that they’re working on a new, original multiplayer IP, and they’re partnering with PlayStation to do it. The news comes from a PlayStation Blog from Firewalk’s studio head Tony Hsu.

Who Are Firewalk Studios?

Firewalk Studios, a member of the Probably Monsters family, is a collective of veteran game developers from across the industry. The post from Tony Hsu, who’s worked on games like Call of Duty and Destiny, also cites Ryan Ellis, a former Game Director on Destiny, and Elena Siegman, who served as a producer on Guitar Hero 2, Bioshock Infinite and also Destiny. The team also has brought to life games like Mass Effect and Apex Legends.

So What Game Are They Working On?

Not many details have been shared about what type of multiplayer game Firewalk Studios are working on, but Tony mentions that their daily online playtests have managed to bring the team closer together despite the challenges of the last year. Tony does state that Firewalk are a “next-generation AAA studio” though, so it’s likely that this new game will be a PS5 exclusive and won’t be coming to PS4.

When talking about the Sony partnership, Tony says: “Today, we’re thrilled to announce a partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment for our new, original multiplayer game. For our team, the opportunity to create new worlds and inspire more amazing moments for players around the world is the fire and ambition that keeps us going. The PlayStation team has a deep love and respect for the medium of games, and some of the best expertise and capabilities in the world to help make big ambitions a reality.”

Firewalk promises to reveal what they’re working on when the time is right, and given the team’s experience and pedigree in the past, I’m definitely intrigued by what they have to offer. When we know more, you’ll know more.
