A heartwarming story of the little indie game that could, it’s been revealed that Bethesda’s Fallout 4 has sold more than 200 copies worldwide since its release on November 10th.

According to analysts, the post-apocalyptic RPG shooter farming simulator was expected to only shift between 10 and 20 copies in its first week, showing how the buzz it has received has given a huge boost to sales. What’s even more surprising is how successful the small marketing campaign from Bethesda has been – all employees were asked to give out leaflets in their neighbourhood.

Pete Hines, VP PR & Marketing at Bethesda, spoke about its success: “Well, honestly, I am stunned. Although these are still early figures, we are looking at between 201 and 202 units sold of Fallout 4 during its first week on sale. Only about half of those were family and friends, I only bought a few dozen myself.

“My mom has about fifteen. She loves it, she doesn’t have a console or PC, but she’s always crying out for a new bookend.”

Fallout 4 has been years in the making and has had to go down the Kickstarter route five times to reach its funding goal. It’s the first “true” Bethesda RPG game since 2011’s Skyrim, which managed to shift an almost as impressive 194 copies during its run.

Critical reception to the game has been fairly positive with IGN giving it a 7.5/10, saying: “Fallout 4 might not be up there with the true games of the year like Shower With Your Dad Simulator, but it’s still a good option for the casual gamer with a couple of hours to spare.”

It hasn’t been without its problems, however. When asked about the game’s many bugs and glitches, Bethesda’s Hines remained silent, instead opting to rotate his head 360 degrees before melting into the floor.
