EXCLUSIVE STREAM: Sam Densmore – Open Marriage

Portland singer/songwriter Sam Densmore has a brand new album out on April 21st, but you can stream it right now, exclusively on Cultured Vultures, you lucky ragamuffins.

If you have a soft spot for the kind of Pacific North-Western folk music that sounds best when walking along a coastline, pretending you’re in a movie montage while spring cleaning or driving cross country, you need to get acquainted with Sam Densmore.

The Portland resident has played with a number of different alt-rock bands through the years and now he’s striking out on his own.¬†Open Marriage¬†is his debut solo EP, and he’s been kind enough to let us share it with you a few days early. It was recorded almost entirely with the full band playing live, and produced by Mike Coykendall, of M. Ward and She & Him fame.

The name comes from the overriding theme – Densmore was actually in an open marriage up until two years ago. Open marriages are rarely simple arrangements and there’s certainly plenty to talk/sing about in this case. As a complete piece, it definitely feels like the mark of a man who has come to terms with a very difficult thing, and it’s hard not to get sucked in. If you’ve recently been dumped, or even had to break up with someone, I would be amazed if you didn’t come out of the other side of this LP feeling a bit better about it.

The album comes out proper on April 21st. If you like what you heard here, show Sam some support and pick up a copy.
