Electronic Essentials of the Week: The Galaxy, Dub Scout, Hamdi

Electronic music is known for its huge variety of sounds and styles, with thousands upon thousands of ever-different tracks being released every day. It is often impossible to know where to start so each week we will be selecting the best of the best in the scene to help you get the most out of one of the most varied and unpredictable genres.

The Galaxy – Bass Country Club EP

Another excellent four track release from Yellow Claw’s Barong Family label, newcomer The Galaxy finds the best of both worlds within his ambitious trap compositions. Dreamy vocals accompanied by epic chords sway into lively drops packed with hardstyle beats and insane sounds. The Galaxy has crafted an EP composed of all of Barong’s best qualities, sitting somewhere between Mightyfools, LNY TNZ and Yellow Claw.

Rustie – Peace Upzzz

Glaswegian producer, and WARP records regular, Rustie ushers in the surprise release of his new album EVENIFYOUDONTBELIEVE with this tantalising tune that has classic Rustie written all over it. Reverberating choral chords mix with trippy melodies and punchy kicks in a typical WARP track that reflects the intelligence and forward thinking of Rustie’s work.

Doctor P – Sweet Shop (Moksi Switch Up)

Moksi bring us this week’s nostalgia hit with a refresh of this undeniable dubstep classic, giving the original banger a smart house makeover. The melodies of the original are reborn in the smooth Moksi sound, complete with a catchy house beat, while the second drop catches everyone off guard, deploying another of the house beasts’ signature sounds. Here’s hoping we see more classics given the Switch Up treatment.

Dub Scout – Dragon Roost Island

This whole Zelda remix idea seems to be becoming a bit of a thing. Dub Scout picks up from where GTA left off last week, with a jaw-dropping and incredibly well worked take on the Wind Waker theme. The catchy original is now a punchy burst of chiptune craziness that is perfectly upbeat in the well-known Nintendo style. We’ll be humming this one for a while thanks to Dub Scout!

Speed Round
Lady Bee & CMC$ – Flowerz 2015 (CMC$ bring another pulsing production to the Mad Decent menagerie, complete with unforgettable vocals)
Jackal – OHUMAD (As if this Vic Mensa/Kanye West track couldn’t get any more raucous, Jackal decimates them with his thunderous bass and bold, brash brass)
weird inside – slow hours (The ever quirky weird inside brings us that 3 in the morning dosage of mellow vibes and undulating beats)
Hamdi – Tension (An uncontrollable beat that needs to be graced by grime artists across the scene, this one lands a powerful gut punch with its wildly dark sounds)
