Grinding is a tried and true strategy for any action RPG and Elden Ring is no exception. As you tackle your first boss encounters in the open world and in the dungeon settings, you might find yourself wishing you were a few levels stronger. That’s where we come in. Here we’ve crafted the perfect level-up guide for players in the first 5-10 hours of Elden Ring’s campaign.

Where you’re going to want to go is just south of the Warmaster’s Shack. There, you’ll find a cliffside vista populated with five wandering giants.

While this might initially seem like a daunting prospect, it turns out the giants can actually hurt each other, which changes the entire equation in your favor.

If you’ve played Dark Souls, think of this section of Elden Ring like the lava section below Bed of Chaos. Yes, these enemies are big and powerful, but if you kite and guide them properly, they’ll happily kill each other for your benefit. The giants on this cliffside plain are precisely the same.

How you tackle the task is up to you. You can ride your spectral steed and strike them one after another for safety’s sake or just run up to them on foot and guide them all into a melee. Either way, you can get 5000 runes in just a few minutes utilizing this method. This will allow you to grind 20-30 levels in just a few hours before the number of runes earned starts to become superfluous to leveling up in an efficient manner.

This strategy will also serve as a tutorial for dodging attacks and using critical strikes on downed enemies. The giants hurt each other so severely with each attack that they will often fall over and expose their weak points for critical strikes, speeding things up even further.

For increased value, you can also use this method to earn a surplus of runes to buy spells, equipment, ashes of war, upgrades, ammunition, or any other items you might need. This strategy is the best way to farm runes early on in Elden Ring and will speed things up for anyone looking to topple a particularly challenging foe in the first 5-10 hours of the game.

Elden Ring is available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X & S, and Xbox One.
