Elden Ring Speedruns Are Now Sub 40 Minutes

And now I feel inadequate.

If you’ve woken up this Friday in a good mood, or you just happened to think that you were making good progress in FromSoftware’s recent masterpiece Elden Ring, consider for a moment that speedruns for the game are now clocking in at under 40 minutes. I think after 40 minutes, I was lucky to have reached The First Step.

The first sub-40 minute speedrun comes courtesy of “Distortion2” (credit to The Loadout), who has managed to complete the game in a staggeringly quick 39 minutes and 38 seconds. Naturally, as most speedruns tend to do, this run doesn’t involve completing the entire game, with a number of skips and missed boss fights incorporated into the run to reach the credits as soon as possible. You can check out the record breaking run for yourself at the link right here.

While a 40 minute run seems ridiculous now, it’s likely that we haven’t seen the last of this game being opened up by speedrunners looking to shorten their times even further. Over the coming months, it’ll be interesting to see runners attempt to shave this time down by as many minutes and seconds as possible. Could a sub 30 minute run be possible? We’ll see, won’t we.

Of course, it’s not just speedrunners who’ve been having fun playing Elden Ring in non-conventional ways. Other players have found more unique methods to play the game, including streamer Super Louis 64, who managed to defeat Godrick using a banana controller. Each banana produces an input when pressed, with four controlling movement and the others controlling jumps, attacks and so on. It’s ridiculous to watch, but not unsurprising coming from Super Louis 64, who’s also played Elden Ring with a Ring Fit controller.
