Edge of Tomorrow 2’s New Title Is Not Very Good Not Very Good

A little gem of a sci-fi action movie, Doug Liman’s Edge of Tomorrow was a modest success at the box office which has found itself cult status. It’s not the most revered movie ever made, but plenty of people appreciate its fun premise and Tom Cruise dying a lot. People really like watching that, for some reason.

Well, because we must have multiples of nice things, we’re getting the mandatory sequel. What are they calling it, you ask? Edge of Tomorrow 2? Edge of Tomorrow 2: Electric Twogaloo? 2 Edge 2 Cruise Control? No, it’s much worse than those last two.

Live Die Repeat And Repeat.

My reaction.

In case you didn’t know, Edge of Tomorrow was initially called All You Need Is Kill, which sounds like a James Bond movie where he has too much sugar. It was then changed to Edge of Tomorrow being, incredibly confusingly, labelled as Live. Die. Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow for home video release. So they’re doubling down on a marketing slogan added after the fact to a niche film that not enough people saw at the cinema to act as the title for the sequel. Why not.

The news was confirmed by Liman, who seemed very enthused about the project, but wasn’t too sure about when we would actually see anything come to fruition:

“…we have an amazing story! It’s incredible! Way better than the first film, and I obviously loved the first film.

“Tom [Cruise] is excited about it, and Emily Blunt is excited about it. The big question is just when we’ll do it. But it’s not an if, it’s a when.”

Hopefully the movie’s time in limbo will help them to come up with a better name. There’s no way someone is going to want to walk up to a ticket booth and say Live Die Repeat And Repeat.
